John B. Martinez
John B. Martinez, 74, a resident of Romeroville, NM passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Teresita Martinez; his brother, Fidel Martinez; sisters-in-law, Trinnie and Viola Martinez; a brother-in-law, Feliciano Barreras, and a granddaughter, Destiny Bustamante.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elvira of the family home; three sons: Eugene Martinez and wife Sheila, and Tomas Martinez all of Romeroville, NM and Johnny Martinez and wife Terri of Las Vegas, NM; three daughters: Eugenia Martinez and husband Michael of Bernal, NM, Teresa M. Jaramillo and husband Ernest of Romeroville, NM, and Maria Martinez and husband Steve of Los Martinites,NM; two sisters: Elsie Barreras of Romeroville, NM and Charlotte Valdez and husband Ted of Pecos, NM; three brothers: Rudolfo Martinez of Colorado Springs, CO, Bernie Martinez of Romeroville, NM, and Tony Martinez of Belen, NM; a sister-in-law, Dolores Martinez of Pecos, NM; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchldren.
A life long catholic he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He was born in Holman, NM on June 10, 1941 and was untied in marriage to Elvira Lucero on October 28, 1961 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1955 and worked as a chef at Embers Steak House and the El Tico Restaurant. The couple moved to Las Vegas, NM in1968 and worked for Martinez Gas Company and was a pre-cut foreman for Air Lock Log Company for 14 years. He retired in 1981. He enjoyed watching sports on television, enjoyed listening to Spanish music, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place a services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 beginning with a rosary at 8:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. The interment will take place at a later date in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Holman, NM.
